The ancient village develops above the natural cavities called <em data-start=\"374\" data-end=\"383\">i rutt\u00eb<\/em> and goes up towards the modern part of the town. Fulcrum of the historic centre is the <strong data-start=\"458\" data-end=\"479\">Capua Castle<\/strong>, maniero di epoca medievale con un ciclo di affreschi del 1550 realizzato da Donato Decumbertino, allievo del Vasari.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"1064\">In addition to the castle, the churches of <strong data-start=\"638\" data-end=\"665\">St Bartholomew Apostle<\/strong> and of <strong data-start=\"671\" data-end=\"685\">St Nicholas<\/strong>the latter enriched with canvases from the circle of Cavalier d'Arpino, where painters such as Guido Reni and Caravaggio also passed through. Other points of interest are the <strong data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"879\">Municipal Villa<\/strong>with an early 20th century fountain and an M36-Jackson tank as a war memorial, and the area of <strong data-start=\"978\" data-end=\"991\">#DoorsArt<\/strong>redevelopment project with artistic paintings on old doors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1066\" data-end=\"1301\">From a naturalistic point of view, the area includes the <strong data-start=\"1127\" data-end=\"1146\">Lake Occhito<\/strong>one of the largest artificial reservoirs in Europe, with scenic bridleways offering walking and cycling routes in a beautiful environmental setting.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1303\" data-end=\"1592\">On an intangible level, Gambatesa preserves a strong <strong data-start=\"1357\" data-end=\"1380\">musical tradition<\/strong>: the <strong>Maitunate<\/strong>the <strong data-start=\"1401\" data-end=\"1447\">Molise Dialect Song Festival<\/strong>two band ensembles and, from 2023, the <strong data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1514\">Lively Festival<\/strong> of chamber music, integrating concerts, workshops and artistic residencies.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gambatesa sorge su un colle che domina la vallata del Tappino e guarda verso il Fortore, in posizione di controllo su antiche vie di comunicazione tra Molise e Puglia.
