Dal punto di vista naturalistico il territorio è impreziosito dalla presenza del Lago di Occhito, uno degli invasi artificiali più grandi d’Europa, il quale segna il confine tra la Puglia e il Molise per circa 10 Km. Una caratteristica e panoramica ippovia costeggia la sponda del lago nel territorio di Gambatesa, offrendo la possibilità di effettuare rilassanti passeggiate a piedi o in bicicletta a contatto con una natura incontaminata in un ecosistema di grande interesse ambientale. L’ippovia è dotata di box per cavalli ed è ubicata in area SIC e IBA. Nel territorio di Gambatesa insistono due ulteriori siti classificati nella mappa Natura 2000, quali Toppo Fornelli e Calanchi Succida-Tappino.
